Title | Polyphenism in Pogonomyrmex ants: molecular mechanisms underlying caste determination and maternal effects on worker size |

Summary of thesis | Social insects are characterized by extreme phenotypic plasticity in which different phenotypes within the same colony can be produced depending on environmental conditions, despite the high level of genetic relatedness. I am interested in the distinctive worker sizes at different life stages, observed between colony founding stage and established colony, and particularly the potential maternal effect that could influence this phenotype. |
