Description | The first and most fundamental step in infection with intracellular pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites is entry of the microbe into the host cell. This workshop will cover recent developments in pathogen-host cell invasion. Presentations by invited experts will highlight novel concepts for how microbes can manipulate the host cell to gain access and how in turn microbes can be used as probes to decipher the function of the host cell. A particular emphasis will be put on recent technological developments, in particular high-throughput proteomics and systems biology approaches to illuminate the complex interplay of cellular and microbial factors underlying pathogen host cell invasion. In a second part of the workshop, groups of students will present cutting-edge original articles in the area of research that will be discussed in a round-table format with the invited experts.
In the afternoon session groups of students will present seminal papers on the workshops topic selected by the invited experts. We recommend 20-25 minutes for the presentation (Powerpoint, including a short introduction, key results, and conclusion). The presentations will be followed by a 10-15 minutes discussion with the experts.
