Detailed information about the course
Title | Preprint Journal Club |
Dates | 08.09. 2020 |
Organizer(s) | M. Fabio Palmieri, UNINE |
Speakers | M. Fabio Palmieri, UNINE |
Description |
The main benefits of posting preprints are that preprints are completely open access and readily shareable and promoting your dissemination within the scientific community. The community can comment on the manuscript and thus potentially improve it, and finally, feedback can be incorporated and revisions uploaded to any preprint server. Discussing preprints at a Journal Club will be beneficial to us PhD students, as we will be in "advance" in our field compared to published peer reviewed manuscripts. The idea of this seminar is, to first present the platform ASAPbio and preprints in general, their pros and the concerns about them. Then we speak about preprint JC and the benefits for the community and for the student's training. For this first session, Fabio chooses the preprint, we discuss the paper together. Fabio writes a summary of the review and posts it on the preprint review platform PREreview.org. Students will have to read actively the preprint beforehand, so we can focus on the review itself. ASAPbio has a webpage where they address the pros and cons of preprints in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic (https://asapbio.org/preprints-and-covid-19)
