Summary of thesis

Each cell contains many distinct actin structures, which underlie essential processes. Actin nucleators, of which formins form a widely conserved family, are critical to defining actin structure architecture, but how different formins build distinct actin architecture from a shared cytosol is unclear. I will focus on the formin Fus1, one of the three formins in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, which assembles the distinct actin structure that underlies cell fusion, and address how its regulation leads to the fusion focus architecture.
