Summary of thesis | Investigating the mechanisms of organ remodelling during bladder dysfunctions, characterised by chronic pain and overactivity. We will address the role of microRNAs in regulation of the genes, important for bladder contractility and maintainingthe tight urothelium layer. The current project is an interdisciplinary effort combining molecular/cell biology with clnical expertise (collaboration with the Urology Clinic, University Hospital) to delineate the factors influencing the switch between bladder overactivity, hypertrophy and acontractility. Using validated miRNA/mRNA target pairs in cell based models of urothelium and bladder smooth muscle, we will investigate how the persistent stressinducted signalling during disease affects the miRNA expression and function of their target proteins. |
