WELCOME TO THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN MICROBIAL SCIENCES!
Microbial Sciences have experienced a remarkable expansion over the past decade, shaping both fundamental and applied life sciences as well as medicine. In Switzerland and beyond, this dynamic field continues to drive innovation and discovery.
The Universities of Western Switzerland are home to leading research in bacteriology, virology, microbial ecology, and mycology, with more than 30 high-profile research groups across Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, and Neuchâtel.
Our mission is to provide doctoral students with cutting-edge scientific and technical training tailored to their research needs and career aspirations (see activity program). Through specialized courses, workshops, and networking opportunities, the program supports advanced research training and fosters the development of essential skills for a successful scientific career.
The program is complemented by the CUSO Transversal Program, which offers training in transferable skills to strengthen your professional profile.
Beyond training, the Doctoral Program in Microbial Sciences encourages active student involvement in shaping its activities—whether through participation in committees or contributing to the organization of the annual retreat.
Strong collaboration between local doctoral schools and the CUSO program ensures synergy, shared credits, and open access to activities for all doctoral students in related fields.
Join us and become part of a vibrant community advancing microbial science at the forefront of research!
