Description | The objective of this course is to give an overview of protist diversity in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and their functional roles in microbial foodwebs. Talks will cover a range of ecosystems types (lakes, pitcher plants, agricultural soil, forests, etc.), methodological aspects for field work, lab and bioinformatics.
Six talks will be given by experts in protistology from Switzerland and abroad, over the course of this two-day workshop.
Participants are welcome to present posters, which can be presented in 3 minute presentations, and give talks (15 minutes). Posters will be displayed all day to allow ample time for discussion.
The second part of the workshop will be devoted to a practical session during which participants will have the opportunity to see examples of living and fixed protists and to discuss some methods used in their study. All participants are welcome to bring material or images of “mystery protists”. Please coordinate with the organisers.
