Description

For 2 days (and 2 nights) a small group of PhD will go hiking around Alpine botanical garden of La Linnaea, in Combe de l'A and Combe de Drône (Bourg-St-Pierre, Valais, Switzerland) accompanied by a specialist in the alpine flora.

Students will study plants in link with their PhD projects, or the research conducted in their labs, and will prepare a presentation for the group on a publication, in relation to their research and the plants observed in the field. Cases of plant insect coevolution, plant adaptation to freezing in high mountains, observation of the rhizosphere, parasitism in plants, relationships between soil acidity and plantcomposition, climate change and morphological variations of plants due to environmental pressures will be presented and discussed.

Students can access La Linnaea (1689 m), where they will identify plants and get some rest, by train, bus and on foot.

A moderate fitness level and adapted clothes (hiking shoes, waterproof jacket, ..) are required.
