Description

Organizer

A joint course with Université de Genève
Dr. Juan Montoya

Summary

The course presents the principles of DNA and protein evolution and how this information can be used to infer DNA- and protein-based reconstruction of phylogenetic relationships.

The students will learn how to use different programs of molecular phylogeny (MrBayes, PhyML, Treefinder, Paml,...) and how to use a web-based service platform for phylogenetic analysis, Bioportal. They will aslo perform statistical tests that make use of phylogenetic reconstructions, such as topological tests, relative rate tests and tests of selection acting on sites or branches of the tree.
