Streptococcus pneumoniae is an opportunistic human pathogen. With the raise of multi-drugs resistant strains, finding new antimicrobial targets is required. To discover new synthetic lethal genes which could be used for combinatorial therapies, a synthetic lethal screen was performed using a CRISPR interference library targeting all operons in different genetic backgrounds of Streptococcus pneumoniae D39V.
