Description |
An introduction to CRISPR-Cas9: A focus on bacteria
Although a relatively recent discovery, CRISPR technology is beginning to revolutionise biotechnology. This workshop is designed for beginners to the field to introduce scientists to the world of CRISPR by providing a summary of the fundamentals. The workshop will comprise lectures, workshops and laboratory-based exercises. The lectures cover the history and theory of CRISPR, how the technology works, the wide variety of CRISPR applications, and approaches to carrying out your own CRISPR experiment, with a special focus on engineering bacteria. A computational workshop will demonstrate how guide RNA for CRISPR experiments can be designed. The practical component of the course in the lab will demonstrate how dCas9 based CRISPR can be used to knock down bacterial gene expression.
