Organizer(s)

Prof. Laure Weisskopf, UNIFR

Speakers

Prof. Laure Weisskopf, UNIFR

Dre Floriane L'Haridon, UNIFR

Dr. Laurent Mène-Saffrané

Description

Students will learn how microbes communicate with each other and with «higher» organisms. The first day, a mini-symposium will be organized, where internal and external scientists involved in the field will present their findings. Opportunity will be given for PhD students working in the field to present their data and obtain feed-back from leading experts in the field. The second day, students will learn how to collect and analyze volatile organic compounds, as one particular type of communication signals used by microbes.

Program

5th of September morning:
scientific lectures by invited speakers on bacterial communication via volatile and non-volatile compounds
(Prof. Leo Eberl, Prof. Choong-Min Ryu, Dr. Paolina Garbeva)

5th of September afternoon:
short presentation by participants and technical lectures on how to analyze volatile and non-volatile communication signals (Dr. Laurent Mène-Saffrané)

6th of September morning:
Practical part on the analysis of volatile compounds (Dr. Floriane L'Haridon, Dr. Paolina Garbeva)
