Dates

19-23 March 2018

Description

Landscape ecology deals with the interaction of spatial patterns at multiple scales and ecological processes. The influences of spatial scale and pattern are fundamentally important to understanding ecological systems and predicting effects of global change on the biosphere.

This course will provide students with a theoretical and methodological introduction to landscape ecology, with focused training in the use and interpretation of a number of contemporary analytical methods and software tools in the field, including:

  • introduction to Geographical Information Systems with QGIS
  • landscape pattern analysis with FRAGSTATS
  • multi-scale resource selection functions with R
  • population connectivity modelling with UNICOR
