Estrella lausannensis and amoeba-resisting microorganisms: human exposure and potential pathogenicity

Summary of thesis

The primary aim of the thesis is to evaluate human exposure to Chlamydiae, using a newly developed pan-Chlamydiae real-time PCR, immunofluorescence serological tests. Amoebal methods will be used to evaluate the presence of amoeba-resisting microorganisms, including Chlamydiae, in domestic water systems of patients.

Furthermore, the description of a recently described Chlamydia-related bacterium, Estrella lausannensis will be realized. The peculiar membrane of its star-shaped infectious forms will be studied using proteomic analyses.
