Title

Biostatistics for Biologists

Dates

31 October - 1 November 2022

Organizer(s)

Michael Hothorn, Prof., University of Geneva
Debora Zoia, CUSO MPS Coordinator, University of Lausanne

Speakers

Ludwig A. Hothorn, Prof., (retired), University of Hannover, (DE)

Description

Main topic: which stats designs and evaluations when the number of experimental units is small?

The 2 day course module will combine lectures and hands on practical sessions, covering:

1. Model-based and model-free analysis of dose(concentration)-response relationships
2. Pairwise and multiple inference between mutants, treatments, time etc. for non-gaussian variables, such as counts, proportions, heavily skewed, with values below detection limit, timo-to-event endpoints etc.
3. Statistical evaluation of genome-wide association studies with quantitative traits
4. Inference for designs with small samples sizes
5.Pro- and Cons of transformations in biostatistics
6. Some principles in experimental design: i) pooling experiments to use a single wild type only, ii) CRD vs. RBS, iii) baseline covariates, iv) randomization vs. restricted randomization, v) increasing n_i with increasing s_i

IMPORTANT! : the participants must be familiar with R.
