Description

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the major challenges of global human health, with bacterial infections that are no longer curable with the current arsenal of clinical antibiotics surfacing at an alarming rate. While the PhD students of the CUSO microbiology program are routinely exposed and well trained in the underlying mechanisms of AMR and the modes of action of antibiotics, few are familiar with the automated diagnostic pipelines currently used in major hospitals to detect bacterial pathogens and the rapid characterisation of their AMR properties. This excursion to the bacteriology lab at HUG is designed to inform students of the current systems and challenges in rapid diagnosis of bacterial infections routinely occurring in the clinics.

Program

The participants will meet at HUG at the gound floor level.

The visit will take place between 1.30 pm to 5pm
