Description

This summer school offers hands-on training in mathematical and computational modelling in evolutionary biology and evolutionary ecology. Participants will learn to develop and analyse models using invasion analyses and individual-based simulations.

Through a series of worked examples drawn from social evolution, life-history evolution, and species interactions, participants will learn how to translate a biological problem into a mathematical model, identify its key assumptions, and analyse its evolutionary outcome.

By the end of the course, participants will have strengthened their ability to construct and analyse models, gained a clearer understanding of the principles governing adaptation, and developed greater precision in interpreting and communicating modelling results to other biologists.

Program

The programme will combine theoretical lectures with practical exercises.

In addition to guided exercises, participants will be divided into small groups to analyse classical problems in evolutionary ecology. This group work will promote collaborative learning and foster critical discussion of theoretical concepts and the results obtained.
